Joe Gibbs' Grandson Calls Out Rivals' 'Dirty' Tactics to Crush His Playoff Hopes (2024)

We now have all the spots for the playoffs filled and NASCAR is ready to take it to phase 2 of the 2024 season. Many promising drivers missed out on the chance to be in the top 16, including 2-time Cup Series Champion, Kyle Busch and Bubba Wallace. A new contender who made it to the playoffs for the first time in his career was Ty Gibbs.

Ty Gibbs secured his spot in the playoffs through consistent performances and a strong finish at the Southern 500. His solid results throughout the season, combined with a crucial top-10 finish in that race, helped him accumulate enough points to make it into the playoffs. What’s more impressive is that Gibbs almost got wrecked in the Darlington race, but he still managed to score enough points to be safe in the playoffs.

After the Cook Out Southern 500, Ty Gibbs spoke about the tough race that he made it through. Although he scored enough points to be in the playoffs, it was no simple task for him. In a recent race at Darlington, Josh Berry made a three-wide move that resulted in Ty Gibbs being put into the wall, causing a considerable wreck. However, Gibbs made it through and the spot in the playoffs became the reason for an ear-to-ear smile on his face.

During the post-race interview, Ty Gibbs was asked about his wreck, and in response to that, he smilingly replied, “I was like, what the heck? Yeah, they tried to wreck down there, and then they wrecked me down here, so I don’t… I mean, I could have backed out, but this just got random, really. I’d say dirty right there. That is unfortunate.”

He explained the position he started the race with, but ultimately, it all worked out. Gibbs continues to explain, “I was like, ‘Oh, we started rolling the three after a six.’ I was like, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay,’ and I grew back all day. I don’t know if it’s okay, then it was okay. So, that was definitely closer than it should have been, but definitely wished we went out and raced better.”

During the race at Darlington, Ty Gibbs found himself in a tough spot when Josh Berry tried to make a bold three-wide move. Darlington is known for being a narrow track, so this kind of maneuver is always risky. Unfortunately, Berry’s move didn’t go as planned, and he ended up pushing Gibbs into the wall.

The impact caused Gibbs’ car to lose control and crash hard into the wall. This set off a chain reaction, involving multiple cars and creating quite a chaotic scene on the track. The crash brought out the caution flag, which disrupted the race. However, it was not as severe as the wreck did.
